How my failures in finance and work can help you miss the potholes I fell face first into

Finance is weird and it’s something that really is so simple in a lot of ways but also incredibly complex.

I have struggled with it all my life and I am only starting to understand the way to control it.

I know what I need to do, but I struggle to do it.

Might sound familiar.

I have debt, student loans and not much savings.

But I have a degree in Econ.

Sounds like an oxymoron.

That’s probably what I would call myself, if I had low self esteem.

#1 failure

Not taking advice.

Plenty of people offered me advice, but I struggled to look at it objectively and subsequently discarded it if it felt antagonizing.

I have been working on learning how to overcome this.

I think the best way is to write down what someone says and pretend someone else said it.

Objectively analyze it and then move forward.

#2 failure

Spending money you don’t have.

This one is obvious and please don’t do it if you have trouble with self control.

You don’t need a credit card.

Read that again and again until you understand.

#3 failure

Working jobs aimlessly.

Define why you work, sit down and ask yourself.

You may say “for money duh!”

But I want you to ask yourself why you work the exact job you do and how is it serving you?

Then find out if it is the best place for you long term.

Work your way towards increasing your income.

Learn from my mistakes and don’t do what I did.

I said as a kid I would never end up here and here I am.

Learn from me and stay far away from credit cards.
