When you start your first job you feel as though life has truly begun.

Who is work?

When your younger, you see your family go to and from these different places and spend time laboring and bringing home the bacon (or as I say the turkey bacon, lol)

And if you are like most people you think about what your first time at work will be like. For some of us that starts in the home as our parents teach us about labor and how to take care of a home.

For others they learn about the experience at a job they get as a teenager and start their life.

There are as many perspectives on work as there are people. But one thing is certain. It is an integral part of life and our relationship with it determines a large part of our quality of life.

How do you work?

Some people work jobs that are demoralizing and soul draining. Other people work jobs that they truly enjoy and love.

The balance here is not in trying to avoid work but in learning what kind of work that you are best suited for and slowly leaning into that.

When you are in a position that makes it difficult to like work, it makes life 10x more miserable.

You can learn to love difficult work. But you have to love the outcome as much as you love the work.

As you learn your work style and your work preferences and you balance that with the income you want and your willingness to put up with any crap your work throws at you, you will determine your work options.

Let me give you an example:

If you are physically impaired and not very physically strong, being a coal miner or lumberjack is probably not for you.

This is an incredibly simple example, however I hope I illustrated the point well enough for you to understand.

Here is that sentence interpolated as a formula:

Work style + Work preference = Income x Willingness to deal with crap(health hazards, moral hazards etc.)

Work style can be defined as the way in which you best complete and analyze your work and the methods and processes which you use to complete and analyze that work.

Work preference can be defined as the work at which you are best suited to complete based on your education and experience combined with the style in which you complete that work.

This when properly balanced will bring in the desired income and cancel out the crap that your work may bring up.

Balancing this formula is incredibly delicate and takes time.

This balancing act requires patience, level headedness and the ability to push through difficult times and not give up.

Writing out a pros and cons list as you analyze your current job and finding out what you like about your job and what you don’t like is a great first step in finding out if your work baby is right for you.
